I can see clearly now...

Glass begins its climb

Glass begins its climb

The scaffolding is complete and the glass has started arriving. The people from Lincolnshire Stained Glass who are working with the team from Universal Stone to replace the Clerestorey glass began bringing the glass up the scaffolding by hand this morning.

Once the tinted glass has been removed the new glass will be put in and attached to the existing iron frames using the wire on the new windows. Echoing the main windows the new Clerestorey windows have a trim of blue and red along with the wonderfully clear glass which will enable light to flood into the building from above. Once installed a lime mortar is being used to seal the windows into the stone.

After installing the South windows the scaffolding will be moved to the North side and the windows there replaced. The indoor works should be completed by early July, but the external stonework that Universal Stone is undertaking will go on for some weeks - watch this space for more news on this.

Remember, if you would like to sponsor a window, the cost of replacing the glass and restoring these windows is likely to be in the region of £28,000.  There are 14 windows so that is £2,000 per window.  We would be delighted if people would like to sponsor a window!  If you are a UK taxpayer, after Gift Aid it’s only £1,600.  If a full window is a bit much, then why not half a window, which would be £1,000 (or £800 with Gift Aid). Contact the office to arrange sponsorship.
